Job Post: Technology Aide for Hillcrest School

The Hillcrest PTA is hiring for a part time enrichment technology teacher to instruct students in grades 4-8 (approximately 20-25 at a time) in the school computer lab for the 2007-2008 school year. We would give preference to someone who can begin immediately.

Hours: M-F 9:30-11:30 (8 one hour sessions – 2 sessions 4th grade, 4 sessions 5th grade, 1 session 7th grade, 1 session 8th grade) for a total of 10 hours per week instruction + 1 hour prep time

Pay: $30/hr (PTA employee, not OUSD) no benefits

General Course Description: Beginning in 4th and 5th grades, students need to learn how to touch type so that they can use the computer keyboard with fluency. So that they will be able to use computers as a tool, they need to be able to word-process, use email responsibly, and research efficiently.

Our student goals include but are not limited to:
  • typing with fluency
  • research effectively and responsibly
    use email responsibly
  • able to produce posters with graphics, brochures, papers,
    produce computer art
  • develop and present a powerpoint report
  • learn about excel

Also, we would like the 7th and 8th graders to create a digital yearbook toward the end of the school year.

In the school computer lab we have: Type to Learn, Mavis Beacon Typing, Microsoft Office, Kidpics???, Kidspiration??? and money to purchase software. In addition we could use someone who knows how to maintain a computer lab, troubleshoot problems and network computers. We are willing to negotiate a limited number of additional hours for this role.

Qualifications: Candidates should have experience with and interest in working with kids in addition to experience in technology. No teaching credential is required.
