Welcome back for another semester of interesting and challenging ITEC courses. Classes begin on campus on Tuesday, August 23. If you are enrolled in a Monday class, it will meet for the first time on Monday, August 29.

Many classes are full, but there are still seats available in several courses. Contact your advisor for assistance in choosing courses to meet the needs of your program, or to create an Independent Study plan if you can't find the right course and still need more units this term.

If you are considering applying to the program, we are accepting applications now for Spring 2012 admission until November 1, 2011.

Enjoy your Fall! Dr. Brian Beatty, ITEC Chair

Applying for Fall 2011?

Though the formal SF State application deadline for Fall 2011 is May 1, ITEC will accept applications for new students wishing to begin their study in Fall 2011 through July 2011. Contact the ITEC office (415-338-1509) for more information.

ITEC 894 Showcase on May 13, 2011

ITEC 894 Showcase - May 13, 2011 - 6:30 - 9:00 PM - BH 168/170 (SF State Main Campus)

The most recent group of ITEC graduates is showing off their creative work projects on campus on Friday the 13th of May. And you're invited! In the past, we've restricted this to the students themselves, but this year we are opening up the event to all interested people, especially ITEC grads and current students.

December 2010 and May 2011 graduates will be showing their creative works in the BH 170 lab. We'll split the group into two sessions so everyone will have a chance to explain their work to interested "browsers" for about an hour. Attendees will be free to wander among project stations to spend time with students and projects that most interest them.

We will be serving the typical ITEC Open House beverages and light snacks, so we're asking you to let us know if you plan to come so we can plan accordingly. Please RSVP to Anna Kozubek in the ITEC office by May 10.

ITEC Welcomes Dr. Patricia Donohue!

The Department of Instructional Technologies is very pleased to announce that Dr. Patricia Donohue has been chosen to (and has agreed to) fill the tenure-track position we searched for this year. Pat recently completed her Ph.D. in Communication and Information Sciences (CIS) at the University of Hawaii (May, 2009). The UH program is an interdisciplinary program and Pat chose emphases in Human Computer Interactions (HCI), Library Information Sciences, and Communications Policy. Her personal research interests are on technology innovations in teaching and learning, cultural impacts in learning, and computer supported collaborative learning environments.

Dr. Donohue is a graduate of the ITEC program herself and has been teaching part time in our program for several years. Those of you who have experienced her teaching, advising and collegial conversations can understand that she brings a wealth of expertise and experience in relevant fields. Dr. Donohue is a wonderful permanent addition to our program.

ATC/894 Proposal Preparation Meetings

If you are planning to graduate in Fall 2011, you must attend one of two ATC (formerly GAP) planning workshops scheduled for this week. At these short, one-hour workshops, ITEC faculty will review the requirements for your 894 proposal and ATC package; both of which are due in mid-March. The basic process is that you complete a two-page proposal for your culminating work, provide evidence that you are likely to finish the following semester (transcript, list of planned courses), and line up reviewers (first and second readers) from among the ITEC faculty who will serve as your 894 committee next semester. All this must be completed and turned in for review and approval by March 7. For more on the graduation process, see: http://www.sfsu.edu/~itec/program/graduation.html.

Workshops will be held on Tuesday, February 22 in BH 170, from 6:00-7:00 PM, and Wednesday, February 23 in BH 170, from 6:00-7:00 PM. You need only attend one. Contact your faculty adviser if you absolutely cannot attend one of theses sessions in person.

Presentation on Emerging Technologies Wed Feb 23 at 3:00

Presentation on Emerging Technologies Wed, Feb 23 at 3:00pm in BH 168

You are invited to a presentation by Dr. Patricia Donohue on Wednesday February 23 at 3:00 pm to 3:50 pm in room 168 in Burk Hall. She will present on Smart Projects for Emerging Technologies. This is an area in which many students have expressed interest. Please come if you can.

Dr. Patricia Donohue is a finalist for the open faculty position in Instructional Technologies Department at SF State. This presentation is part of the interviewing process that all finalists will complete. Additional finalist presentations will be delivered in March.
