General Description:
The Carey School is an independent, coeducation Pre-Kindergarten through 5th grade school with approximately 224 students. The school is located at 2101 Alameda de Las Pulgas in San Mateo, California, approximately 20 miles south of San Francisco and 30 miles north of San Jose (near Highway 92). For more information please visit www.careyschool.com. The Carey School is creating a new full-time Technology Specialist position to meet the needs of its expanding technology curriculum. The Technology Specialist will report to the Technology Director and will work closely with school faculty, parents and students on all aspects of the school’s technology operations. The candidate is responsible for managing and maintaining the school’s network of OS-X computers, email, library database and other applications, external website, printers,
backups, phone systems, security infrastructure and other technology-related systems. The candidate will also participate in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Technology Plan for the school, including the evaluation, selection, purchase and implementation of new hardware, software and school information systems. Finally, the Technology Specialist will also have the opportunity to work directly with school faculty and staff on their technology needs.

Duties:
• Administer OS-X servers
• Maintain and improve computer systems in the computer lab, classrooms, and offices
• Oversee the school’s network, including physical networks, routers and internet connections
• Manage critical software applications including the school’s business systems, email systems
and student information systems
• Install and configure server-based educational software and productivity software (Microsoft
Office, Adobe software, etc.)
• Assist with the management and update of the school’s website
• Ensure reliable backups and lead disaster recovery procedures
• Manage phone and security systems, including SPAM / virus protection software
• Evaluate, negotiate, select, purchase and implement new hardware and software as needed
• Develop and implement strategic and tactical technology projects as directed by the
Technology Director
• Maintain current documentation of the school’s technology infrastructure and systems
• Assist other school faculty and staff in implementing technology in the classroom
• Assist with school-wide technology professional development
• Provide just-in-time support for other faculty and staff

Qualifications:
• BA/BS degree. Master’s degree and/or previous teaching experience is a huge plus
• Minimum 3 - 5 years experience in technology positions, ideally in a K-12 academic setting
• Strong experience with and deep understanding of Macintosh system and networks including
OS X client/server systems using Open Directory, Home/Mobile Accounts, DNS and DHCP
service. Expertise with OS-X server and network administration and creating and deploying
client computer images is required
• Windows XP/2000 experience is a plus
• Experience with networks, phone systems, business software, school information systems,
email systems, backups and other technology systems
• Desire and ability to work with faculty, staff and students to understand and address technology
needs. Ability to assist individuals with varying degrees of technical experience
• Programming skills, such as scripting, web site layout and programming, database knowledge,
is a huge plus
• Excellent problem-solving, organization and verbal/written communication skills
• Eagerness to learn new technology
• Patience and a sense of humor

Full-time, 12-month position:
The Technology Specialist position is a full-time, 12-month salaried position. Salary is based upon experience and qualifications.
